Santa arrived in style in West Michigan on Saturday, December 16, 2006 as Marquette Rail ran its first annual Santa Express. Santa and Mrs. Claus were assisted by one adorable little elf, several cute helpers and a conductor right out of Polar Express! The special train attracted several thousand in eleven on-line communities. Santa spoke to every single youngster brave enough to come forward, and for those who weren't, our intrepid little elf took it upon himself to personally lead - or in some cases drag - the hesitant few to the Jolly One for a little face time. Many children brought notes, fearing Santa might be getting forgetful at his advanced age, while others even brought cookies and other baked goods. All told, we handed out over 3,200 candy canes, and were handsomely repaid with thousands of smiling faces. Special thanks to team and family members Christopher Brzozwski, Matt and Linda Cox, Wayne and Howie Dault, Wayne Dault II, Jeff Davis, Jan and Matt Erlewein, Bill, Crystal and Vanessa Heiden, Mike Hantiuk, Tasha Holley and Kevin Ruble, as well as corporate supporters such as The Depot in Grant Restuarant, Delaney's Restaurant in Fountain, and Morey Logo in Mount Pleasant for their help in making this first outing such a rousing success!
